ABOUT ME

My name is Vicky Perfors, born in 1988 in the typically Dutch town of Oegstgeest and raised in Waalwijk, in the province of Brabant. At the age of 20, I fell in love with the Greek island of Skiathos and knew: 'One day, I will live here.'

In 2011, it happened: at 23 years old, I left for Skiathos, deeply in love, for an indefinite time. I went to work as a hostess for TUI, and while the love wasn't the right one, it turned out to be a tough lesson: heartbreak 'all over the place.' Everything suddenly became uncertain, the love was gone, and my seasonal job as a hostess was coming to an end.

At the end of 2011, I returned to the Netherlands, without Greek love, without a job, income, or a place to live. I felt defeated, lost, and misunderstood. I tried to get back into the Dutch routine, and I managed: a great job, a house, a large social network, and my loving family around me.

The homesickness for Skiathos remained, despite the busy job, the new house, and the many parties I attended with friends. I had a really great life, but something was missing. Year after year, I went on vacation to Skiathos, and every time, I cried on the flight back to the Netherlands: 'The island won't go anywhere, I can always come back. The thought of having a second home elsewhere is comforting.' And that's what I told myself when the 9-to-5 rat race got me down again.

I did it for ten (!) years, staying in my comfort zone. Fears, limiting 'what-if thoughts,' and well-meaning advice from others held me back from following my heart. This resulted in a burnout, costing me friendships, relationships, and the connection with myself.

Stacks of self-help and personal development books later, 'Team Marketing' crossed my path. What did I realize? 'This could be my vehicle to Skiathos!' I turned my dream into a goal, learned online entrepreneurship, and created a flexible workplace and a replacement income.

In the summer of 2021, I reached my goal and left for Skiathos. My motto became: "If you really want something, you make it happen." I hope to inspire and motivate you to do the same.

"Why stay within your comfort zone when there's so much more to experience outside of it?"
